Who Are We?

Cipta (pronounced CHIP-ta) – is Indonesian for "to create".

We are a University of Melbourne affiliated theatre company created to support emerging theatre-makers and original student works. We aim to develop new voices in the student theatre community and welcome all artists and theatre enthusiasts!

Cipta was founded in 2024 due to a noticeable lack of opportunities for individuals new to theatre. We strive to create opportunities for everyone within the University's rich and vibrant theatre scene, regardless of experience.

Each year we have two seasons according to the University of Melbourne's semesters: A larger primary season in semester one, and a smaller experimental season in semester 2.

All productions will take place during the University's teaching weeks.
